College Readiness 101

ACT Lawrence operates a wide array of services and programs through our Financial Capability and Opportunity Center. ACT Lawrence provides workshops in, youth jobs and college readiness for college bound youth (ages 14-22). There are seven (7) weekly workshops including two (2) college tours covering topics such as how to be successful in college / financial aid 101 / applying to scholarships / High School to college resume / Admissions process and experiential learning. Our public library aims to provide an inclusive space for all ages for people to learn and be active members of their community. Programs are available for all ages, free of charge. We also have a wide range of resources that can be found on site and online via our catalog

The Adult Learning Center 

The Adult Learning Center offers:

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Preparation for the HiSET Exam, taught in English or Spanish
  • Computer courses

Courses — all free — are yearlong and offered in the morning, afternoon, or evening. When you’re ready, the Adult Learning Center also has a fully staffed testing center to administer HiSET exams. To learn more about the Adult Learning Center, click here

Residential Education and Job Training Program

Job Corps is a free education and training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep a good job. For eligible young people at least 16 years of age that qualify as low income, Job Corps provides the all-around skills needed to succeed in a career and in life. Students have the option to reside at Job Corps while attending the program. To learn more, please click here.
